It's that time when we reflect on what we've accomplished and think about resolutions for the New Year. Most of us start out with good intentions, but we lose steam along the way and eventually give up. Why is that? Do we set unattainable goals? Do we have unrealistic expectations? Or do we simply not have the self-discipline to stick with something that requires effort?
I have one resolution this year. It's not original. I'm borrowing from Nike. "JUST DO IT!" My mother used to say, "If you see it and it needs to be done, do it." And you'd better not turn a blind eye. If you did, you'd find yourself with assigned tasks.
And so...
Just write every day -even if it's awful.
Just finish the blasted novel.
Just submit. The worst they can do is say no.
Just exercise. It's good for you -whether you like it or not.
Just eat right. Treat yourself means every now and then, not every meal.
Just prioritize realistically. Understand what's truly important and what can go by the wayside.
Just enjoy the moment. It only comes once.
Just do it. No one else will do it for you.
And finally, because I found it inspirational:

Good list! I have to add that in addition to "Just do it," "Just say yes" is a good thing. Sarah and I decided to just say yes at Chautauqua. That's how we ended up on a boat with a bunch of strangers. Look at how well that worked out. ;)
awesome list! Good luck with your goals.
Happy New Year!
Excellent list! My motto is Just Do It! too! (not that I always follow it....). But I am getting the Christmas decorations down today, and I feel very accomplished.
Great advice! Thank you!
And best of luck meeting your goals in 2011!
Michelle - And I'm so glad you did!
C.R. Evers - Thank you, and Happy New Year to you!
Kelly - I'm impressed. It's not unusual in this house for the tree to still be up at Easter...
Thank you, Faith! Good luck to you as well.
Yes, great advice - the kind of advice NaNo tries to get you to master.
And I found all the missing Halloween decorations as I was stringing lights, so I'll add to the "just do it" mottto - progress, not perfection.
Happy New Year!
"Just do it" works for me too.
I loved that inspirational video. One of my friends managed to lose 100 lbs and keep it off -- I find that kind of dedication inspirational too.
Happy 2011 -- and here's hoping we both keep that inspiration coming!
Anne - I like that, "Progress, not perfection!"
Mary - I like the video too. I am totally in awe of that kind of drive and self-discipline. I managed to get fairly large... I've lost 40 lbs, but it took me 7 years to lose it. I've got that much more to go, but it's coming off -slow but steady.
Here's to a New Year of "Just Do It!"
I have really enjoyed your site. Keep up the good work
