Thankful

Today was at least a week long.

Sometimes my job as a teacher is to be a sounding board, and I don't mind. It usually means that the parent or student who comes to me trusts me enough to share something scary, or hurtful, or like today - incomprehensibly horrific and sad. If I can, I try to fix what's fixable about the situation, but mostly I just listen.

Tonight I'm thankful for my husband and my kids, and for a peaceful and stable home.

My husband used to come home and make comments just like this, Nora. Working in law enforcement for over 20 years, he just about saw it all.

When I hear or read things like this, I can't help agonizing over the kids who don't have someone like you in their lives.

Thank you.

Sometimes life seems almost unbearable, not because your OWN situation is so sad but because someone else's is. How special it is to be that one good thing in somebody's life.

Wow, how hard to have to do this. I'll be thinking of you.

Thanks, all. I never cease to be amazed at the difficult situations some of our school children and their families face. I've (thankfully) lived such a sheltered life. Some of what they face is incomprehensible to me.

You are a blessing to those who come to you. Obviously your shoulders, your heart, must be strong enough to bear the burden or they would not be sent to you.

Ah, how wise you are to know your job is merely to sit back and listen.
